Stores sell tile in boxes. Your wall cares about pieces. Area-only calculators skip that step and invent a waste percentage instead.
What a piece list looks like
For a wall, a good bill shows something like:
- 48 whole tiles 600×300 mm;
- 12 cuts 600×180 mm;
- 8 cuts 220×300 mm;
- then boxes = ceil(total pieces ÷ pieces per box).
Two rooms with the same m² can need different box counts if one is full of openings or a wasteful pattern.
Steps
- Enter exact sizes and openings in the tiling planner.
- Choose tile size and pattern.
- Read whole and cut lines — that is your piece count.
- Divide by the number of tiles per box on the carton; round up.
- Add a small spare for breakage only after you see the cut map — often fewer boxes than a blind 10–15%.
Pair this with grout and adhesive so the shopping list is complete.
